Lost in Istanbul
Speaking of migration, we use numbers that represent the mass character of events. The small number and modesty of intellectuals make them essentially unnoticeable. Their need to migrate out of Russia and handle everyday relocation problems causes risks in preserving the unique scientific and cultural knowledge they carry. Istanbul has become one of the major hubs for them.
The emigration of intellectuals was already an issue in Russia for previous years. Martial law has increased brain drain drastically. The migration of environmental specialists causes the cancellation of ecological research projects and declines the protection of unique extensive forests that are important to the entire ecosystem of the planet. Migrated linguists that are studying endangered old languages and dialects are now isolated from their research work, which is only possible while those who speak these languages are still alive. The retreat of artists and cancellation of theatrical performances, concerts and exhibitions makes essential moral landmarks unattended.
